Whew! What a busy, busy, busy week! I am just going to jump right in....
Field Day!We had a super awesome field day this year. The weather was just beautiful, and tons of fun games. My kiddos just had SO much fun! Something new this year, and a highlight of the day were the sno cones! Yummy!
Whew! We did it! Our baby graduated from high school! Happy for him...and super glad that I don't have to wake him up EVER again. What about college classes, you say? NOPE! Mamma doesn't wake you up for college or job. It's time to sink or swim in that department! (Believe it or not, several people have told me, "just wait until college classes start". Huh?!? Uh-huh!)
We do a gardening project every year. We're so lucky to have a fairly large space behind our school that's been turned into a garden space. A few years a ago, one of my terrific teamies was integral in developing what used to be an "Outdoor Lab" to the garden. This is the first year that we've been on a balanced calendar, which means we only have 9 weeks off for summer. Kinda short for summer....but perfect for gardening! We waited until the very end of school to plant so that when we come back, things will be ready to harvest.
Several classrooms participated in the garden project, and it is going to be wonderful!
My classroom planted zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon, pumpkins, and green peppers. Other classes planted corn, tomatoes, strawberries, and an herb garden. Can't wait till we get back in August! We've got a super cool project planned!
Birthday! My little princesses! My two gorgeous granddaughters are exactly one month apart in age. One was born in May and the other in June. Boy! What a wonderful summer that was!! We are in the birthday season. My little Piper turned three last week, and sweet Catey will be three in a month. Grandma LoVeS shopping!!
Getting ready for next year! My new position!Normally, I am a looping teacher, and this would be the year that I loop back to first grade. However.....I am super excited to let you all know that starting next year, one of my fabulous teamies and I will each be teaching a First, Second, AND Third Multi-age class. Super, super excited!
We'll have a non-traditional set up. Think 50 kiddos with 2 teachers. We will be in two connecting rooms, and our kiddos will work with either my teamie or me. We are both fans of Project Based Learning (PBL), and are looking forward to implementing more PBL in our new format.
I will be working with our younger readers, and have made a little book for them to record the sight words that we work on. There's a page for almost every letter, each labeled with the letter and some pics of items that have that beginning sound. I did put a couple of the letters that don't have as many words together on one page....like p and q, x, y, and z. You can grab a FREE copy of this Super Sight Word Book! Just click on the cover to link over. Please leave some thoughtful feedback when you do!!
BUT WAIT! There's MORE!Have you heard about the Building Mathematical Knowledge Summer Book Study? Get ready to get your math on! Check it all out by clicking the button. And don't forget to enter the giveaway! We're giving away TWO copies of the book!
